About Us
We are a family based business who operate just outside Malmesbury, North Wiltshire. As a result, our team is continuing to grow - led by our Founder and business owner Petra Gadsby, as soon as we get pictures of everyone, we will endeavour to upload them here.
Petra
- Founder / Upholsterer
Petra is both a traditional and modern upholsterer. She studied an AMUSF accredited course at the British School of Upholstered Furniture . Her vision is to future-proof treasured items of furniture by giving them a complete new lease of life.
Her greatest passion is to preserve the historical value of furniture, and it is this that drives her attraction to the traditional artisan methods of upholstery. Petra’s creative nature and thirst for perfection, sees her challenged on a daily basis. She loves to learn new skills and discover the endless world of fabric, design and craftsmanship.
Petra’s mission is to run a business that contributes to the wider reduction of waste. Re-using and re-upholstering existing furniture, significantly reduces the requirement for additional furniture manufacturing and associated environmental impacts.

Val
- Super-Duper Machinist
Our super-duper machinist Val has worked at Wootton Fields Farm for over 25 years and we are very pleased that she decided to join the Gadsby Design team back in October 2020.
It could be said that she is bedrock of the happy go lucky team, as Val has a wealth of sewing, teaching and textile experience that provides a rich quality assured measure to all of our work.
A keen walker, singer and BBC Pop Master expert, Val brings life into the workshop meaning there is never a dull moment. Don’t be surprised that when you visit, you catch us in the middle of a Gadsby Design sing-a-long session.
Lucy
- Executive Administrator & Machinist
Lucy is the most recent member of our team and she is quite literally the glue that holds us all together. She is our front of house and will be looking after you throughout your furniture future-proofing journey.
She loves up-cycling clothes and we encourage her fetish for all things sewing machines by letting her loose on the machines in the workshops, supporting the wider team. A force multiplier.
